Privacy policy

Perros de Baja — last updated March 2026. This page summarizes our practices; have qualified legal counsel review it for your jurisdiction, especially if you collect health data, work with minors, or operate across borders. Our Terms of use also apply to use of this site.

Who we are

This website is operated by or on behalf of Perros de Baja. For privacy questions: corey@perrosdebaja.com.

Information we may collect

  • Contact and inquiry data: name, email address, phone or messaging handles, and the content of messages you send through contact, adoption, volunteer, or similar forms.
  • Application details: information relevant to adoption or foster screening (for example housing, experience with pets, references) as you choose to provide it.
  • Community content: names, stories, photos, or testimonials you submit for publication (e.g. happy tails), subject to moderation.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, general device information, and pages viewed, through server logs or tools we enable (some may use cookies—see below).
  • Donation-related data: if you donate through a third party (GoFundMe, Venmo, etc.), that platform collects payment details; we may receive limited transaction or donor information according to their policies and what you share with us.

How we use information

We use personal information to respond to inquiries; process or evaluate adoption, foster, and volunteer requests; operate and improve the Site; send updates you have asked for; moderate and display approved stories; comply with law; protect the safety of people and animals; and support fundraising and transparency about our work. We do not sell your personal information for money. If we use tools that could constitute a “sale” or “sharing” under U.S. state privacy rules, we aim to honor opt-out choices (see California section below).

Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)

If laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on bases that may include: your consent (where we ask for it); performance of a contract or steps at your request before a contract; our legitimate interests in running a rescue organization (for example responding to you, safeguarding our network), balanced against your rights; and legal obligations.

Sharing

We may share information with service providers who help us host the website, manage email, process data, or operate our organization (under appropriate safeguards). We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, or property. If we ever reorganize or transfer assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

Retention

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including legal, tax, or operational requirements (for example retaining adoption records for a reasonable period). When data is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it where feasible.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No online transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You may withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise rights, contact us at the email above. You may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority where that applies. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights offered by law.

Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13 (or the age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from young children without parental consent where required. Contact us if you believe we have received a child’s information in error.

International transfers

We may process or store information in countries where we or our providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses).

Cookies & similar technologies

We may use cookies and similar storage (for example to keep you signed in to the admin area, session security, or to remember basic site preferences). If we add optional analytics or third-party embeds, we will rely on the choice you make in the banner when you click Allow all or Do not sell my personal information.

You can change your browser settings to block cookies; some features might not work as intended.

California residents — “Do not sell or share”

If California law applies to you, you may have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Choosing Do not sell my personal information in our banner stores that preference in your browser and is our signal to avoid selling or sharing personal information to the extent that term applies to our activities.

We do not knowingly sell personal information of minors under 16 without affirmative authorization where required.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date will change, and we may post a notice on the Site for material updates.
